Kohl's Cares for Kids
Kohl’s department stores have made huge strides in their Kohl’s Cares for Kids campaign. Riverbend Head Start and Family Services recently received two $500 donations from the retail giant to be used at its Collinsville Head Start center. “We were able to replace broken furniture, chairs, and purchase new materials,” said Debbie Fohr, Center Supervisor.
Kohl’s Cares for Kids is focused on community involvement and hopes to aid area charities with their work. In addition, they sent five employees to help with Family Fun Day, an event for children enrolled in Head Start and their entire families that promotes early literacy.
With help from generous companies such as Kohl’s, we can better serve Madison County, one family at a time.
Hearing Aid Helps Young Mother
We recently met a young, pregnant mother who was hearing impaired and probably unable to hear the cry of her newborn once it arrived. With her hearing aid being broken for years on end, she was kindly referred to RHSFS for prenatal care, guidance, and a little financial support to get her through her pregnancy, solve her hearing issues and become capable of caring for her baby.
RHSFS staff worked diligently to help this woman. With numerous phone calls to a hearing aid manufacturer, and weekly visits to her home to make sure she was healthy, we found solutions to her challenges.
Once her hearing aid was repaired and working correctly, the woman was astounded at the sounds she hadn’t heard for years. Whether it was a car starting up or birds chirping, she was amazed and grateful for the dedication and caring she received.
Although it may sound crazy, this young mother is actually looking forward to hearing her baby cry for a 3 a.m. feeding. And she will be able to thanks to RHSFS.
