Riverbend Head Start is Collecting Pennies During Annual “Penny Rush” Campaign

ALTON, IL., January 26, 2024 – Riverbend Head Start & Family Services (RHSFS) is hosting its annual Dollar Per Child Penny Rush campaign at all of its Head Start locations. The campaign will start on Monday, January 29th and will run for four weeks, concluding on Monday, February 26th. This year’s goal as set by National Head Start is two dollars per child.

Earlier this month, our students were given a plastic bag to take home and start collecting. Each year, teachers and students find the project to be lots of fun! Parents and other visitors at each of our six Head Start locations (plus Central Office) will notice a large penny jar at the front desk. We’ll be accepting more than just pennies throughout the campaign.

2024 Head Start Campaign:

  • Raise two dollars for each of the one million children in Head Start and Early Head Start programs across the nation.
  • Riverbend Head Start has funding for 759 children, so our goal is to raise $1,518 this year.
  • 2024 Campaign runs January 29th – February 26th

The money collected will be turned over to the nonprofit IHSA (Illinois Head Start Association) in Springfield. IHSA is a non-partisan association serving as the voice of Illinois’ Head Start/Early Head Start programs, staff and parents.

In 2023, RHSFS raised $1,122.39 during our Penny rush campaign.
